Irish photographer Julien Behal was born in Belgium in 1973.

Having graduated with a journalism degree
in 1997 he began working as a freelance photographer in Dublin,Ireland. He joined the leading photographic agency, Maxwell’s in 1999 and since then has worked with all the major national and international titles including the
Irish Times, Irish Independent, USA Today,
New York Times, Haaretz, Getty Images and is currently employed as a staff photographer with the Press Association, based in Dublin.

He has been a recepient of several national photographic awards for his coverage of Irish
current affairs and also his project on the population in Belarus after the Chernobyl
nuclear accident.

He has recently finished a documentary film making course and includes film making in his recent projects.

He currently lives in Dublin.
